Our Founder

Meet Greg Zatorski

Founder of Clarity House Chicago — and living proof that recovery works.

In His Own Words

I know what it's like to start over.

My name is Greg Zatorski, and for many years I struggled with alcoholism.

Like so many others, I wanted to get sober, but I couldn't do it on my own. I tried countless times. I went to detox more than once, convinced myself I could do it alone, and always found myself back where I started. I know what it's like to feel hopeless, to wonder if life will ever change, and to question whether lasting recovery is even possible.

Everything finally began to change when I became willing to do something different. After another stay in detox, I made the decision to walk into an AA meeting and truly give recovery a chance. That decision changed the direction of my life.

I learned that recovery isn't just about putting down the drink or the drug — it's about learning an entirely new way to live. Recovery takes honesty, willingness, support, and living one day at a time.

It wasn't easy. Every day brought new lessons, but little by little I began rebuilding my life. Through the support of Alcoholics Anonymous, my Higher Power, my family, and the people who believed in me, I discovered a life I never thought was possible.

Today, I wake up with gratitude. I have purpose, peace, meaningful relationships, and a passion for helping others. Sobriety didn't just save my life — it gave me a completely new life.

The Story Behind Clarity House

Before it was a sober living home, it was my home.

The very first Clarity House has a story of its own. It was also the place where I spent many years drinking.

When I found recovery, I looked at that house differently. Instead of allowing it to remain a reminder of my past, I wanted it to become a symbol of hope. We spent months transforming it from top to bottom — cleaning it out, repairing it, remodeling it, painting it, and carefully restoring every room with one purpose: to create a safe, comfortable, and welcoming home where others could begin rebuilding their lives.

It wasn't just about remodeling a house. It was about transforming a place that once represented addiction into a place that represents recovery, hope, healing, and new beginnings.

As I watched that house come back to life, I realized the same thing had happened to me. Just like that house, I wasn't beyond repair. Recovery rebuilt my life one day at a time, just as we rebuilt that home one room at a time.

Today, that same house is filled with hope instead of hopelessness. It has become a place where people support one another, attend meetings together, celebrate milestones, and begin building a future they never thought was possible. That transformation became the foundation of Clarity House.

Why Clarity House Is Different

People deserve more than just a bed.

Clarity House wasn't created because I saw a business opportunity. It was created because I know what it feels like to need help. I know what it's like to walk into your first AA meeting. I know what it's like to start over. I know what it's like to wonder if recovery will ever work — because I've lived it. Today, I continue to actively work my recovery program and remain connected to the recovery community. That experience shapes everything we do.

Structure

A daily rhythm that supports early recovery — clear expectations, healthy routines, and a written handbook.

Accountability

Honest accountability from leadership and peers who understand the work — because it saves lives.

Respect

Every resident is treated with dignity — no shame, no judgment, no exceptions.

Encouragement

Milestones are celebrated and setbacks are met with compassion — never contempt.

Community

Brotherhood and sisterhood — residents who support one another and grow together.

Hope

Most importantly, people deserve hope — proof that a new life is possible.

Our Mission

Rebuilding lives one day at a time.

To provide a safe, structured, and supportive recovery home where individuals can rebuild their lives one day at a time.

We believe recovery is possible for anyone who is willing to do the work. Our homes are built on accountability, honesty, fellowship, responsibility, and compassion. We strive to create an environment where residents support one another, build healthy routines, and develop the tools needed for long-term recovery.

Recovery isn't just about staying sober. It's about learning how to truly live again.

  • Accountability — we hold the standard, every day
  • Honesty — the foundation of every recovery
  • Fellowship — no one recovers alone
  • Responsibility — rebuilding trust through action
  • Compassion — meeting people where they are
A Personal Message

If you're struggling, don't give up.

If you're reading this and you're struggling, I want you to know something. Don't give up.

I know what it feels like to start over. I know what it's like to think you've run out of chances. You haven't.

Recovery isn't about how many times you've fallen. It's about being willing to get back up one more time. That's exactly what I did. If I can do it, I truly believe you can too.

Thank you for trusting Clarity House to be part of your journey. It is an honor and a privilege to walk alongside people as they rebuild their lives, one day at a time.

The first Clarity House wasn't just remodeled — it was redeemed. Just as that house was restored from the inside out, so was my life. Today, both stand as proof that recovery, healing, and new beginnings are possible.

Welcome to Clarity House. Welcome home.

With gratitude,

Greg Zatorski
